Position

Bookseller

Part-time position in our bookshop, with the core hours being on a Saturday (6.5 hours) with the opportunity for extra shifts in the week. The majority of the time this is a job where you will be expected to work alone, open the shop and close up. It requires a candidate with excellent people skills, a love of reading and an enthusiastic approach to work.

Pay: £10.50/hour

Essential Qualities

1. Computer skills

Our ideal candidate will be proficient with computers. This includes, but is not limited to, experience with Word, Excel and Gmail and a confidence when introduced to new operating systems. Most of our work is on our internal computerised system or the internet so it is vital for the role that this requirement is met.

2. Interest in books

It probably goes without saying that we require a candidate with a love of books. A large part of the job is talking to customers about books and being able to give recommendations. We don’t expect you to have read all the books in the world (we certainly haven’t!) but an enthusiasm for reading is a must.

3. Retail experience in a customer facing role

As this role requires the candidate to work alone, confidence dealing with customers in a retail environment is a must.

4. Flexibility to pick up shifts during the week

You may be required to cover holidays and days when we need to be off site due to school assemblies/book fairs etc. Depending on the candidate, these off-site events could be something that we incorporate into your role.
